Launched in January of 2020, Byte is the new kid on the block. Created by the co-founder of Vine, Byte is a social video platform that is looking to make its mark on the world and to take a bite out of its competition [pun intended—listen to more about Byte and TikTok].

That’s why Byte just released a new feature called “Byte Beats” that allows users to add looping music tracks to their videos, similar to their more established rival. While different in its execution, the feature is clearly a warning to TikTok that Byte wants to steal away some of its creators. If all goes according to plan, TikTok may have a social media battle on its hands. The real question is—can Byte beat TikTok at its own game?
