After 8 months, 2020 has proven to be quite a wild year for everyone. That trend continues today as Epic games recently filed a lawsuit against major tech companies Apple and Google. This comes after Apple and Google removed Fortnite from its respective app stores due to Fortnite offering an In-app payment system that would take away from both company’s third-party services revenue.

Epic Games has apparently been planning for this lawsuit because it also released a parody video of Apple’s famous “1984” ad which depicts Apple as the main antagonist. In the lawsuit, Epic Games claims Apple “had become what it once rallied against: the behemoth seeking to control markets, block competition, and stifle innovation.”

The hashtag #freefortnite has been trending on Twitter and companies like Spotify have been rallying behind Epic Games as they believe Apple to be restrictive to both consumers and developers. Ever since they were grilled by lawmakers last month, Apple and Google have been criticized for how they treat developers on their platform with their strict rules and policy agreements. Apple claims these rules are set in place to protect the privacy of its users and that all developers are treated fairly on their platform.
