The New Mutants Finally Sees the Light

The New Mutants, a horror-thriller and X-Men spinoff hit theaters on August 28, 2020. The film’s plot (5 mutants battle their way out of a psych ward) doesn’t sound all that amazing, and it has definitely had some critical reviews since the release. Looking past any glaring issues with movie itself, the film’s production has been the real story, full of suspense and intrigue.

Originally, the movie’s teaser debuted all the way back in 2017. At the time, it was set for a 2018 release, but then the movie underwent reshoots and rewrites and was postponed with a 2019 release. Then, the 2019 release was scrapped when Disney bought 20th Century Fox and decided to re-tool it again for an April 2020 release. Guess what happened? That’s right—COVID happened. The movie was then delayed a fourth and final time to the August 28th reopening of many movie theaters across the United States.

At the very least, this movie should win an award for persistence, given everything it has endured to see the light of day.
