Disney may have used The Force to acquire Lucasfilm in 2012

In 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm from George Lucas for $4.05 billion. Not long after, Disney resumed the Star Wars franchise with a renewed purpose.

Eight years, a new Skywalker trilogy, two stand-alone films and a bounty hunter series later, Disney is left with a Dagobah-like mire of reactions from audiences. Regardless of how the stories have been told, the company is still trying to prove the franchise’s reboot was worth it to the fans. There’s no doubt that the Disney+ streaming service will be the outlet most likely to achieve that kind of success. And for those who have been negatively impacted by the franchise’s direction, at least the recent films were a step up from the prequels—which is sorta’ redemptive. The Last Jedi was a masterpiece, even if everyone doesn’t see it.
